-Performance
The following music video is an example of a performance, it shows the artist being shot doing a live performance. The embedded clip below was a live performance by the artist which was made into a music video. This type is usually used by rock artists in their music videos, this type of music video features an artist/band performing. The link between music and visuals is the main aspect, the link is exact as they are playing whilst being recorded.
Adele - Someone Like You
In Adele's music video you can see her singing to an audience with a piano playing beside her, this has a great effect on the viewer as it makes them feel as if the artist is performing in a way live to them. It gives a feel of what it is like to be at an Adele gig for a live performance.
-Narrative
This music video shows the artist telling the audience a story, narrative music video don't tell you a whole story like a film but the story is fragmented as you can see in the example. The particular type is quite popular and used by many artists for various genres of music as it is interesting which will keep the audience keen. It means that the viewer may carry on watching the music video as they want to know the storyline thoroughly if the story creative.
Michael Jackson - Thriller
In the Michael Jackson music video they used a long story line, the example that I've embedded is only a short version of that video. Even though usually in a music video they only use segments of a storyline this video uses an ongoing story line but this particular video works because the story is very creative and interesting. The music video was actually very popular and received a lot of hits and views globally.
-Concept
This is when the music video has a particular theme that goes on throughout it doesn't follow a specific story line but is abstract and unusual, this may be comical. The following video is an example of a concept based music video. The main reason behind concept based music videos are that they are always something unique and different for the audience to see. The artist want to entertain their audience and show them something they haven't yet seen.
OK Go - Here It Goes Again
OK Go's music video's usually use have this genre characteristic, like in this music video the band use something creative and different in this one as well. It was recognised widely by many audiences as it is such a unique concept which hasn't been used by any other artist/band.
