Using Goodwin's Principles

I looked at ways Goodwin's principles could be used in my own music video, these are ideas that I thought of which could be outlined:
  • Genre Characteristics - narrative could be used in this music video, in the lyrics there is a segment of when the artist sings about some memories. There could be a flash back of that scene, telling that particular story as narrative videos don't have long story lines the short flash backs would fit rightly.
  • Lyrics and Visuals -  at the beginning of the song the lyrics say 'lift the floor boards, to what we find are the cobwebs of what we left behind', this could actually be done. So she could be in a dark and dusty basement, lifting the floorboards and then brushing cobwebs away with her hand. This could be in the search for may be some photographs of whom her song is about, so illustrating the lyrics to visuals.
  • Music and Visuals - the opening of the song is a guitar being played, the visuals could sync this action and could show the artist playing the guitar.
  • Close-up and Motifs - using influence from 'Coldplay' the music video could use creative, subtle editing techniques. There could be segments with the artist walking around in a creepy forest and the background will change from night to day.
  • Notion of Looking - the lyrics mention a lot about eyes, so there could be a lot of direct address to the audience to show the depth and mysteriousness which suits the particular song title. Also eye line match could be used when the artist is in the basement sort of setting, she could look at something then there will be a shot of what she is looking at maybe a window?
  • Intertextual Reference - there could be intertextual reference to film, the artist uses a lot of influence to Marilyn Monroe in her style and appearance so this could be a feature in the music video to highlight this large influence.
